Athletic Director Thomas Espinosa

        Coach Tom Espinosa enjoyed his most successful season at the helm of the Putnam Science Academy Mustangs in 2013-2014 leading his team to a sparkling 29-5 record and a berth in the National Prep School Tournament Championships.  Since the inception of the program in 2006, Espinosa who’s been the only coach in the school’s history has amassed a 146-50 record, a .744 winning percentage. 

      Espinosa has been involved with basketball since a very young age.  His talent was recognized early on as a junior high school player.  When he arrived at Putnam High School as a freshman he was immediately inserted as a member of the Clippers varsity program.  By the time he graduated in 1997 he left Putnam as the third leading scorer in the school’s history with 1,282 points

      Coach Espinosa then moved on to Worcester State University where he was a three year starter and served as the Lancers captain his junior and senior seasons.

At Putnam Science Academy, Espinosa, a noted recruiter and evaluator of talent, has developed into one of the most highly recognized coaches on the prep school level.  He’s a tremendous game coach, noted for preparing his teams for every opponent they face.  During his tenure he’s had seven of his players move on to NCAA Division I programs and many others who have played on the Division II and III levels.  

Prior to assuming the position of athletic director and basketball coach at Putnam Science Academy, Espinosa enjoyed a two year stint as an assistant at Marianapolis Prep in Thompson, Connecticut and two years as an assistant at his alma mater Putnam High School.

      Espinosa and his wife Trish, who also starred on the hardwood at Worcester State University, reside in Putnam with their sons Thomas Jr. (TJ) and Bryce.
